![]() Japanese maples are medium-sized trees, and we read from one of our favorite gardening sources that they require around 24 to 60 feet to plant successfully. During the fall, the leaves change color slightly and fall off in the winter. They look enchanting during the spring and summer. The tree has (slight) bark damage – but has survived for at least ten years. We agree! Our editor is in icy cold New England, and their tree has withstood many Nor’easters, storms, and bombogenesis snow squalls. It’s one of their favorite plants! We read that Japanese maples survive best in growing zones five through six. One of our editors has a lovely Japanese maple tree in their yard.
